Why I’m adding essential oils to your feet

Your feet might not be the first place you think of when it comes to relaxation, but there’s a reason I like starting here.

Our feet are packed with nerve endings and sensory receptors, constantly sending information to the brain about touch, pressure and movement.

So when we slow down and give them some gentle attention, it can be a simple way to bring your focus back to your body.

Why the oils?

Essential oils add another sensory layer through aroma.

Our sense of smell is closely connected with areas of the brain involved in emotion and memory, which is one reason certain scents can instantly remind us of a person, place or feeling.

Combine that with slow, gentle touch and you have a lovely way to begin settling the nervous system.

And I think that’s something many of us need.

We’re constantly rushing from one thing to the next. Work, kids, appointments, phones, lists of things that need doing.

Even when we stop, our minds don’t always get the message.

A little more time to slow down

When I apply the oils to your feet during your Bowen Therapy session, there’s nothing you need to do.

No special breathing.

No trying to relax.

Just lie back, switch off for a while and let your body receive the treatment.

It’s not about making big promises about what essential oils can do. It’s simply a beautiful addition to the gentle, calming nature of Bowen Therapy.

Sometimes looking after yourself doesn’t need to be complicated.

Sometimes it’s simply about slowing down long enough to let your body catch up.

If you’re booked in for a Wednesday Bowen Therapy appointment this September, ask me about the foot application when you arrive.
