What is Bowen Therapy?
Bowen Bowtech, often referred to simply as "Bowen Therapy" or "Bowen Technique," is a gentle and non-invasive form of bodywork aimed at promoting overall health and well-being. It involves a series of specific, light-touch moves performed on various areas of the body, with the primary goal of helping the body reset and heal itself.
Bowtech is a therapeutic technique developed by Tom Bowen in the 1950s. It involves a practitioner using their fingers and thumbs to make subtle rolling movements over muscles, tendons, and fascia at precise points on the body. These movements stimulate the body's proprioceptors, which are sensory receptors in muscles and joints, to signal the nervous system and initiate a healing response.
How Does Bowen Help?
Bowen provides various benefits by facilitating the bodys innate healing abilities:
Muscular Relaxation
The gentle moves applied during a Bowen session can help relax tense muscles, reducing pain and improving flexibility.
Pain Relief
Many individuals seek Bowen for pain management, including issues like back pain, neck pain, and headaches.
Improved Circulation
The technique may enhance blood and lymphatic circulation, which can aid in the delivery of nutrients and removal of toxins.
Stress Reduction
Bowen’s calming effects on the nervous system can reduce stress and promote a deep sense of relaxation.
Balancing the Autonomic Nervous System
It's believed to help rebalance the autonomic nervous system, which can impact various bodily functions. For your heart to beat, your lungs to breathe, and your feet to walk, your nervous system must be functioning properly.
Enhanced Range of Motion
By addressing restrictions in the fascia and musculature, it can improve joint mobility and flexibility.
Support for Overall Health
While not a replacement for medical treatment, Bowen is often used as a complementary therapy for a wide range of health issues, including digestive problems, respiratory conditions, and hormonal imbalances.
At Balance and Energise Bowen Therapy, I tailor the sessions to your individual needs. Each person's response to the therapy can vary, but many people report feeling more balanced, energised, and in better overall health after receiving Bowen treatment.
