Why I love starting the year with the wellness habits challenge

January often comes with pressure to reset everything at once. New routines, big goals, and the idea that this is the moment to “get it right”. But from what I see in clinic, most bodies don’t need a full overhaul in January. They need steadiness.

That’s why I really love running the wellness habits challenge at the start of the year.

The idea isn’t to change everything. It’s to gently reconnect with your body through small, daily habits that support your nervous system rather than overwhelm it. Simple things done consistently often create more change than doing too much for a short time.

After the busy end of the year, many people are already tired, holding tension, or feeling mentally overloaded. Starting with gentle habits helps the body feel safe enough to reset, instead of pushing it further into stress.

I start the wellness habits challenge on the first Monday of January because it gives people space to ease into the year. There’s no rush, no perfection, just simple daily check-ins that support physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing.

January is a time for listening, not forcing. When habits are small and realistic, they’re easier to carry forward long after the challenge ends. That’s what makes them powerful.

Sometimes the most supportive thing you can do for your body is start gently and build from there.
